Fashion Magazines Need a new section!

SO... is it weird that all my weird magazine talk starts at the Gym? Here's my newest thing...

After perusing Shape magazine at the gym and reading the ARTICLES... I came up with the perfect section to add to fashion magazines...

CLEARANCE RACK MUST HAVES!

In this economy or in ANY economy, people are always looking for deals. We peruse the clearance racks looking for that special something that we think is the best deal. Slapping our way through the racks looking for the perfect shirt to wear out that night. What should I not pass up?

Figuring the magazines are watching the style trends and they know what styles are coming and going, what should I be buying?

I know the typical staples.. white button down, black t shirt, nice jewel tones. But what should I be looking for that didn't pickup this season but will definatly be coming back in the near future?

HMM.. Just my thoughts. Maybe I should write this article and submit it to a magazine... That could actually make me moola!

Self Diagnosis - I wonder if I am right...

I think I have self diagnosed myself with Exercise Induced Asthma. The reason I say this is, today I did Active Recovery at my gym. This is an extreme cardio that I do once every 7 weeks. It is intended to get your heart rate up extremely high and then quickly back down. When I bring my heartrate up that quickly, I feel like I want to die. Is this normal or is this Exercise Induced Asthma?

I mean, I can eliptical for hours but I can't run for 10 min. I have never been able to. I am thinking maybe this underlying factor could have always been to blame!

Here is what emedicinehealth.com has to say:
-----
Exercise is a common trigger of asthma attacks.

Exercise can even induce an asthma attack in people who have no other triggers and do not experience asthma under any other circumstances.

People with exercise-induced asthma are believed to be more than usually sensitive to changes in the temperature and humidity of the air.

When you are at rest, you breathe through your nose, which serves to warm and humidify the air you breathe in to make it more like the air in the lungs.

When you are exercising, you breathe through your mouth, and the air that hits your lungs is colder and drier. The contrast between the warm air in the lungs and the cold inhaled air can trigger an attack. Once the attack is triggered, the airways begin to swell (bronchospasm) and secrete large amounts of mucus.

The swelling and extra mucus partially block or obstruct the airways. This makes it more difficult to push air out of your lungs (exhale).
----

Maybe this is why when I work out HARD it feels like my throat is thick with heavy spit that I just can't swallow. GROSS I know.. sorry.. but it is interesting none the less. And I do breathe through my mouth when I workout REALLY hard on cardio.

I always thought I was just a spaz who could not run, but maybe there is a bigger cause to this crazy issue I have with the act of running...

I just had a physical on Wed and would feel stupid going back in to ask about this. Maybe I should ask DR Chris next time we play bar trivia... he is a wise DR Chris and maybe he will have some answers... I know Jonell will read this and laugh :)

Volunteering for the American Red Cross

In an effort to be a more productive person, I decided to volunteer for the American Red Cross. They have a lot of jobs that need to be done so I am sure I could find something that would be right up my alley.

The interview process is suprisingly long... apparently, they won't take just anyone's free time... you even have to have 2 references! Can you believe that?

I met with Britt at the Seattle AMR office and looked through the possible volunteer opportunities. The one that struck my fancy is the Public Information Officer for the Disaster Action Team. The job discription is as follows:

Disaster Action Team Volunteers:

Help when it really matters. Members of the Disaster Action Team provide 24 hour immediate assistance to those affected by disaster. locally, we respond to a disaster once every 42 hours. Team positions includeL client caseworker, material and support services, shelter team worker, feeding associate, Public Information Officer, Didadter Mental Health. No experience necessary. Must be available for major community emergencies. Valid drivers license required. Traning you receive is the prerequisite to national volunteer opportunities.

Public Information Officer:

Represent the American Red Cross in emergency situations. Help spread word of our disaster assistance by talking with the media. Some experience preferred. Training Provided.

So... apparently this positon is hard to fill. Britt told me many people come in and say they just want to be on TV. I said... Did I forget to mention I just want to be on TV? Don't you love Amy's Humor?

Needless to say, I signed up and I have my first Red Cross Training meeting on Wed. Feb 11th.

Who has two thumbs and feels like she is doing something to better the world?

DYSON

I think DYSON made Vaccuums cool. I mean.. who ever would say they wanted a Vaccuum for Christmas until the Dyson came along and people were like.... NOW THAT'S A VACCUUM!!!

I just saw a Dyson and it made me think of that. I really want one and it is something I would not be dissappointed to get for a present. Many people would me like ... great... I get a vaccuum.. now I have to actually CLEAN my house.. but I think DYSON makes vaccuuming fun...

Want to count how many words I misspelled in this blog? It could be fun!

Nordstorm Layoffs - Another Option?

So.. I was talking to my friend about Nordstrom Layoffs. I don't understand why these big companies who layoff people for the high up levels are still posting available positions at Retail. Why don't they cut down on layoffs by offering the option of a Demotion/reassignment to work at the store level so they at least have a job and can maintain their benefits. They would be hiring this position anyway so it seems it would cut down on paperwork wouldn't you think?

Just a thought...
