In an effort to be a more productive person, I decided to volunteer for the American Red Cross. They have a lot of jobs that need to be done so I am sure I could find something that would be right up my alley.
The interview process is suprisingly long... apparently, they won't take just anyone's free time... you even have to have 2 references! Can you believe that?
I met with Britt at the Seattle AMR office and looked through the possible volunteer opportunities. The one that struck my fancy is the Public Information Officer for the Disaster Action Team. The job discription is as follows:
Disaster Action Team Volunteers:
Help when it really matters. Members of the Disaster Action Team provide 24 hour immediate assistance to those affected by disaster. locally, we respond to a disaster once every 42 hours. Team positions includeL client caseworker, material and support services, shelter team worker, feeding associate, Public Information Officer, Didadter Mental Health. No experience necessary. Must be available for major community emergencies. Valid drivers license required. Traning you receive is the prerequisite to national volunteer opportunities.
Public Information Officer:
Represent the American Red Cross in emergency situations. Help spread word of our disaster assistance by talking with the media. Some experience preferred. Training Provided.
So... apparently this positon is hard to fill. Britt told me many people come in and say they just want to be on TV. I said... Did I forget to mention I just want to be on TV? Don't you love Amy's Humor?
Needless to say, I signed up and I have my first Red Cross Training meeting on Wed. Feb 11th.
Who has two thumbs and feels like she is doing something to better the world?
THIS GIRL!
